Ideas for children’s webpages (not to go on website yet)

All children should have equitable access to outdoor spaces to learn and play. Spending time in nature can really benefit a child’s wellbeing and help them to achieve their potential. Having access to green spaces can improve physical and mental health, reduce stress and help improve concentration.

idea: We could have a have a section for each moth providing a nature/wildlife fun fact and an activity that can be done both inside and outside.

We could have a section on things to do. like below.

Get outdoors in February and have some fun. - It might be cold and sometimes wet but nothing brings a little happiness like on putting on a warm coat and doing some wildlife spotting. Early mornings are great to spot some animals or even hear them. You never know what you might find!

Be a nature detective - Can you see signs of new life? When its cold plants take longer to appear but snowdrops are just poking through. They are very strong and can sometimes be seen coming up through the snow and ice. There are many of these nodding white flowers seen throughout February. Can you draw one? can you take a picture?

Nature journal- Why not make a nature journal of all your findings. You can draw or even stick in pictures and log your ideas. What wildlife have you seen or heard? Maybe you have heard an Owl as they can be noisy this time of year. Have you seen a rat or mouse scurrying in the garden? or maybe a fox or badger who are busy this time of year working hard to find food through the cold Winter. What birds have you seen or heard?

Keep watch- Do you have a garden pond or have you made one. Late January, February and March is a good time to check for frogspawn.

We could also sell nature flashcards as one of our products for young people. These could include a picture of a tree then brief facts or details, so a child can learn to identify trees. We could also have some with plants, animals, species habitat. I think these would be great as most of the research I have done on this show these flash cards as being expensive and close to £10 a pack. It would be lovely to make these kind of resources available to all young people. We might even be able to promote these through the primary schools as a useful addition to aid learning.

InOurNatureCIC Thrive with Nature Box. Some organisation’s are doing similar boxes but not seen any in Wales. Most charge a subscription of around £14 a month per box however would be great if we could do these at a really reduced price to allow accessibility for all to nature.
